 About Us

Buntingford Dramatic Society is an active local drama group serving Buntingford (England) and its surrounding villages. It has been around for over 80 years and still going from strength to strength!

We run 2 productions every year and from July 2017 onwards these will always be occurring on the first 2 FULL weekends in February and the first 2 weekends in July. So get the dates marked in your diary so you don't miss out!

We will be holding open auditions to all potential new members, but if you don't fancy strutting your stuff on stage, there's plenty of other activities on offer. So whatever your interest, be it back stage, costumes, hair & makeup, front of house, props, set design, direction, production, sound, lighting ...... There's something for everyone.

Our membership of about 40 bring a wide range of shapes, sizes, ages and abilities to produce plays, pantomime, murder mystery, variety shows, workshops and the occasional social get-together. We are always seeking new ideas and encourage members to embrace new challenges to benefit both the society, and themselves.

We usually meet on Thursday evenings (8-10) at the Benson Hall (opposite the Co-op) in Buntingford SG9 9HT.

Casting is the responsibility of the show 'Director', usually after formal auditions to establish suitability and enthusiasm for a particular role. We keep a register of youngsters wishing to be involved, however, due to the commitment of chaperoning, children are requested to attend only those rehearsals and performances appropriate to their role.

The show 'Producer' takes responsibility for the planning, co-ordination and delegation of the many off-stage activities.

New members are always welcome, with or without experience. For those with little or no interest being on stage, there are many activities that may be of interest, such as lighting, front of house, stage management, set building, costumes, make-up or production etc. Or you may simply like the idea of helping out with that very necessary and highly important task of making the tea. Our membership are all team players, friendly, supportive and welcoming, so if interested, click on
info@buntingforddrama.org or just turn up on a Thursday night. We ask for no joining fee, just a nominal annual contribution (membership fee) as follows: - Junior (below 18 years) £7.50, Ordinary (18 – 64 years) £15. Senior (65+ years) £13, Honorary £0. Associate (past members, sponsors, mailing list contacts etc.) £0

Buntingford Drama is a non-profit organisation that sets out to break even. Any surplus money being used to finance the next project; set building, props, costumes etc. along with the routine expenses, rehearsal room hire, royalties, licences, insurances etc.

Whenever possible, we try to support to our favoured charity, B.A.L.A., the ‘Buntingford Action for the Less Able’. This dynamic group of proactive volunteers became a registered charity in 2002 with the simple objective of making life easier and more enjoyable for residents within the Buntingford area who want to retain their independence but could benefit from of a bit of extra help getting out and about. The group operate on a non-profit basis who, by determination and effort have managed to organise and achieve:-

• Numerous fund raising activities.
• Providing an advice and information service.
• Lobbying for better services and resources.
• The acquisition of a ‘wheelchair friendly’ mini-bus.
• Scheduled Minibus trips to, shopping centres, theatres, the coast, local events etc.
• The installation of a personnel hoist at the local swimming pool.
• Arranging pre-purchase trials of mobility vehicles.
• And more ………….

The Buntingford Dramatic Society believe that B.A.L.A. deserve to be recognised and are pleased to support their very worthy cause and activities. See 'Contact' page. ________________________________________________________________________________________
